Cracking visit, with a warm welcome and tour by the owner. We got to see the ancient vaults, built into a quarry. After use as storage and a jail,conversion to a brewery followed. These vaults were used as Bradford's largest air raid shelter during ww2 before becoming the 'Little fat black pussycat club' in the 1960s. After abandonment and severe flytipping, the tunnels were left to dry rot and damp. Rediscovered by the current owner in 2006, a campaign to link together the maze of vaults, access tunnels and sub - sub - basements began. The site reopened as a complex of bars, pubs and quirky shops in 2016. We were able to visit loads of the building, bottom to top, including the vaults and Shelter, old pigeon lofts, now the Rose and Crown pub, and the brewery offices, converted to the Bears den bar.
